WELL DONE

To all the children for their fantastic start to the new term. Their behaviour and engagement has been excellent.

Welcome!

A very warm welcome to all our new children and families. We hope your time at Broadhurst will be positive and look forward to getting to know you.

Polite Reminders

  • Please remember to book children onto Breakfast and After School clubs by midnight on Sunday for clubs required the following week.  Due to staffing ratios we cannot accept a last minute booking over the phone for After School Care. Please do not be upset when your request is not agreed.

  • School meals MUST be paid for in advance or we may have to ask you to provide your child with a packed lunch.

  • If anyone is struggling to use the ParentPay service, please speak to Mrs Bent in the Academy office.

  • If you think your child may be eligible for free school meals you can apply for them online. Even if your child has a packed lunch you should still apply as you will get vouchers during the holidays and we get additional funding in school. If you would like more information about how to apply please see Mrs Bent in the office.

Thank you

Rights Respecting Schools

This year we will be working to maintain our Gold Award. Over the first few weeks of term, children will be learning about democracy and parliament in their classes. The children will also be given the opportunity to put themselves forward for a role on our different school councils. Each class will vote for the children they would like to represent them on the different school councils. This is an important part of our Rights Respecting work as it ensures the children have a voice in school.

Article 12 - Every child has the right to express their views, feelings and wishes in all matters affecting them, and to have their views considered and taken seriously. This right applies at all times.

Assemblies and Parent Coffee and Chat

Thank you to all the parents who join us for our Celebration Assemblies, you are all welcome to join us for our Friday assemblies. Our assemblies start at 9am so the hall doors will be open 5 minutes before.

Leave your car at home day

Could you leave your car at home at least 1 day a week ? or could you stop at the top of the Fairway and walk down to school ? All these little things we do can help our environment. Thank you from the Eco Bees.

I have noticed lots of jumpers and cardigans being left on the playground, please look after your own uniform.

We still have a Pre- loved uniform stock free for anyone to ask for. Please let your class teacher know if you want anything. I cannot guarantee we have all sizes.

Thank you

Skills Builder Award

Well done to all of the children and staff for achieving the Skills Builder Silver Award!

Skills Builder Homework - Speaking

Organise a game of 'What Am I' with your family. Each member of the family writes an agreed number of objects on small pieces of paper to put in a bowl. Take it in turns to pick an object, describe the object clearly without saying its name and see if your family can guess what it is. You could use a timer to see how many objects people can guess in one minute.

Extension - to make this harder you could also write down one word that you are not allowed to use when describing your object.

Reflection Questions

Getting Started: How do we know if we are speaking clearly?

Intermediate: As you speak how can put your points into a logical order so you can be easily understood?

Advanced: How can you use tone, expression and gesture to make your speaking engaging?

Mastery: How can you adapt the content of what you are saying, in response to listeners?
