Thomas (Y6) and Joshua (Y6) for their amazing setting descriptions which included all of the writing objectives that were set for the task. Well done!

Mobile Phones
We have a mobile phone policy that children must follow. Pupils may only bring a mobile phone to school if they are: Travelling to school by themselves  Staying with a parent or relative in a different house that night and going straight from school
Pupils must hand their phones into the office before they come into the academy and collect them from the  office after leaving the Academy at the end of the day (they must use the external office door) Pupils must not use their phone inside the Academy building or grounds. Parents or carers of any child bringing a mobile phone into school must complete a permission form available form the academy office.

ParentPay
Please remember to book and pay for any Breakfast and After School Clubs by the Sunday prior to the clubs being required for the following week.  This is to enable us to staff according to numbers.  School Meals must also be paid for in advance.

Curriculum

Our Eco Bees and Mrs Alderson met with Bryony from Manchester City Council last week to sign our pledge to work with Manchester City Council on ‘The Four Cs’ (campus, curriculum, community, culture) to contribute towards the city’s goal of becoming zero carbon by 2038 at the latest. We have pledged to support our families to walk more to reduce the number of cars and recycle more. The children will be learning about climate change and the ways we can reduce our impact on the climate through our new Climate Curriculum. We are hoping you will support us with the work we are doing to reduce our carbon footprint. Thank you.

Rights Respecting Schools

I was very proud today when the Manchester Children’s Board met at our academy. Our Parliament and some children from our councils spoke to the members of the board including the Director of Children’s services. They told the Board all about our Rights Respecting Gold award, our Eco work, Mental Health and well Being and about the learning at Broadhurst. The members of the board spoke very highly of our children saying how confident and knowledgeable they are and how well they spoke. Well done everyone!

Safeguarding and Family Support

We have been asked to collect food items for Co-op Academy Failsworth’s Community Fridge. Their Fridge has helped to feed over 40 families over the summer. Last week they fed 22 families. They have asked us to have a donation box in school that they can collect from us for staff and parents to donate. They will collect the food and have said our families are welcome to use the fridge.

We think it is great for communities and schools to be working together to help and support each other. Especially in these times of financial uncertainty.

If you are able to donate they are looking for:- Tinned meats/soups/vegetables- Pasta and sauces- Noodles (super noodles or easy-to-make noodles)- Toiletries (roll-on deodorants, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shower gels, sponges) Thank you. As well as Failsworth Community Fridge there are a number of places you can use for support with food here are a few we know about:

Co-op Activities

Mrs Alderson and Mrs Gough took our KS 2 Eco Bees to the Trust’s Eco Conference on Tuesday. We were able to listen to speakers from the RHS, Keep Britain Tidy and students from Co-op Academy Manchester. We planned our future project – to develop our allotment and use the veg and herbs in our school kitchen and to help our families – and the Eco Bees presented our ideas to the conference. Once again I felt very proud. Mrs Alderson and the Eco Bees are doing an amazing job and we do so much to help our planet.
